LONDON, Aug. 27 -- A well drilled by DNO ASA in its Tawke oil field in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, Tawke 8, has found oil in deeper reservoir levels. Tawke field is in the Dihok production-sharing agreement area.

Tawke 8 tested 8,000 b/d of oil from its most productive interval and a gross rate of more than 17,000 b/d aggregated from four tests. Oil was found in the central, down-flank position of the field.

DNO, which holds a 55% working interest in the PSA, has dedicated three rigs to drill 18 wells this year in Tawke field, including oil producers and water injectors (OGJ, Jan. 8, 2007, Newsletter).

Among these, the Tawke 5A well in the central area of the lower reservoir formation also found oil, and testing is under way on that well.

DNO is retesting Tawke 1 with a small carrier rig to confirm reservoir properties and production potential of the deeper reservoir horizons.

In June DNO started extended-test production from wells at Tawke field to collect additional reservoir and well productivity data. In the interim, the company has delivered some oil to the domestic market by tanker truck. The production test is ongoing.

"Under the current arrangement with KRG [the Kurdistan regional government], DNO is entitled to all produced volumes of oil from Tawke, net after royalty, until all project costs to date have been recovered," DNO said. All production from Tawke field will be reported on this basis, it added.
