LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 -- Petroleos Mexicanos E&P (Pemex) has selected ICA Fluor for a 4-year integrated EPC-oil field services contract at onshore Chicontepec oil field 250 km northeast of Mexico City. ICA Fluor is jointly owned by Fluor Corp. and Empresas ICA.

ICA Fluor will undertake engineering, procurement, and construction of the surface infrastructure and production facilities of the field.

Last year, Mexico's President Felipe Calderon proposed opening the country's oil industry to international oil corporations to help increase crude oil exports. At the time, experts said targeted areas, such as the Gulf of Mexico and Chicontepic, would require at least a decade of exploration and development before significant production begins (OGJ, Dec 11, 2006, p. 29).

In 2003, Pemex awarded Schlumberger Oilfield Services and ICA Fluor Daniel a $500 million contract to recover gas and oil in Chicontepec field (OGJ Online, Mar. 18, 2003).
