A group led by Italy’s Eni SPA has hiked its estimate of gas in place to 30 tcf in Area 4 off northern Mozambique after its Mamba North-1 discovery in early 2012 identified 7.5 tcf of gas in place.

The group’s Mamba South-1 discovery identified 22.5 tcf of gas in place in Eocene and Oligocene formations on the block, in the Ruvuma basin (OGJ Online, Oct. 20, 2011).

Eni is the operator of Offshore Area 4 with a 70% participating interest. Galp Energia of Portugal, Korea Gas Corp., and Mozambique’s state ENH each has 10% interest, and ENH is carried through the exploration phase.
