Zodiac Exploration Inc., Calgary, said it has set a liner in the build section of its 1-10 well in Kings County, Calif., and will shortly begin to drill the horizontal section in the Upper Kreyenhagen formation at 14,440 ft true vertical depth.
It is expected to take as long as 3 weeks to drill the lateral, after which the company plans to perform a multistage completion in November. This is the first horizontal well attempted at these depths in Kings County, the company said.
The company holds 89,000 acres in conventional and low permeability resource plays in Kings County in the San Joaquin basin.
