The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management scheduled its next Central Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease sale in New Orleans on Mar. 20.

It will be the second federal offshore lease sale under the 2012-17 Outer Continental Shelf program, BOEM said Feb. 7.

OCS Lease Sale 227 will offer 38.6 million acres offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

The sale’s 7,299 blocks are 3-230 miles offshore. Water depth varies with the deepest being 11,115 ft. of water, BOEM said. Potential production is an estimated 460-890 million bbl of crude oil and 1.9-3.9 tcf of natural gas, the agency said.
