Total E&P Norge AS drilled a dry exploratory well about 40 km northwest of the Ekofisk field in the North Sea.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said the 1/5-5 encountered an 80-m sandstone in the Upper Jurassic Ula formation with moderate-to-poor reservoir quality and “traces of gas.”

The Maersk Gallant jack up drilled the well in 70 m of water to a vertical depth of 5,942 m subsea. The well was terminated in the Byrne formation.

It’s the first exploratory well in PL 618, which was awarded in APA 2011.
