HOUSTON, Jan. 8 -- Apache Corp., Houston, said a well on its South Umbarka development lease in Egypt's Western Desert tested at 29.5 MMcfd of gas and 220 b/d of condensate from a 28-ft interval.

Khepri-9, 1.2 miles southeast of the Khepri-1 discovery well, was completed in the Alam el Bueib D-7 sand. It was tested on a 1-in. choke with 1,640 psi of flowing wellhead pressure from perforations at 13,340-68 ft.

Apache next intends to test the D-1 sand.

Gas production from the 106,253-acre lease is transported 30 miles via pipeline to Apache's Salam gas plant on the adjacent Khalda concession.

Last week, Apache announced a Western Desert discovery with its Ozoris-1X wildcat on the Khalda concession (OGJ Online, Jan. 4, 2002).
