Equinor ASA has let a contract to Aker Solutions ASA to tie back two Berling gas fields, previously known as Iris and Hades, to the Equinor-operated Åsgard B platform, the service provider said in a release Mar. 27.
The engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) project will begin immediately, with another phase beginning in September. Offshore mobilization will begin in November 2025 and the tie-back is to be completed in December 2027. Production is planned to start in 2028.
The project is being managed from Aker Solutions offices in central Norway. Detail engineering, procurement, and shop engineering are to be executed by Aker’s Trondheim office with support from Bergen and Mumbai. Construction and prefabrication will be executed at the company’s yard in Egersund.
Aker Solutions completed a project FEED in August 2022 and continued in an interim phase to further develop scope and optimize the technical solution for the tie-in, the company said.
Berling is on Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea about 23 km southeast of Åsgard field. This is the third consecutive tie-in project to Åsgard B following Halten Øst and Smørbukk Nord. Expected recoverable reserves are about 45 MMboe, consisting mostly of gas.
Equinor is operator at Åsgard (35.01%), with partners Petoro AS (34.53%), Vår Energi AS (22.65%), and Total E&P Norge AS (7.81%).
OMV (Norge) AS is operator for the Berling development and operations with 30% working interest. The license partners are Equinor Energy AS (40%), DNO Norge AS (20%) and Sval Energi AS (10%) (OGJ Online, Dec. 21, 2022).
