Ping Petroleum UK PLC, a subsidiary of Dagang NeXchange Bhd., has taken delivery of the Sevan Hummingbird floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel from Teekay Corp. to advance the Central North Sea Avalon development project.

Proposed development includes plans to modify the FPSO for electrification from an external, low-carbon source. The company is evaluating options to connect the FPSO to a dedicated floating offshore wind turbine to power the vessel, minimizing diesel usage and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Sevan Hummingbird was first commissioned in 2008. The 60 m-diameter vessel has a 270,000 b/o storage capacity and can produce up to 30,000 b/d.

Ping is progressing Avalon development after receiving a letter of “no objections” from the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) in March this year. The company also has been granted a 19-month extension by the agency to the second term of the P2006 license containing the development.

Production from Avalon is expected to come onstream in 2025 with a total estimated ultimate recovery of 23 million bbl of oil over a 12-year period.
