The Australian Government has awarded major project status to Strike Energy Ltd.’s proposed urea manufacturing development in the North Perth basin of Western Australia known as Project Haber (OGJ Online, Jan. 11, 2021; Dec. 15, 2021).
The company said the award has been based on the opportunity that the development aims to advance the country’s downstream manufacturing industry and support the integration of low carbon technologies and renewable hydrogen.
The award provides the $3-billion (Aus.) project—which aims to produce up to 1.4 million tonnes/year of urea using feedstock primarily from Strike’s Greater Erregulla gas field resources—with streamlined approval processes.
The operator hopes to begin construction in 2023.
