Total lets contract for Tilenga development, Uganda

TotalEnergies SE has let a contract to a consortium of a subsidiary of McDermott International Ltd. and Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corp. to provide EPCC services for the Tilenga project.

Update: TotalEnergies SE, China National Offshore Oil Corp., Uganda National Oil Co., and Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp. have taken final investment decision on the Lake Albert development project in Uganda (OGJ Online, Feb. 1, 2022).

TotalEnergies SE has let a contract to a consortium of a subsidiary of McDermott International Ltd. and Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corp. to provide engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services for the Tilenga project in Lake Albert basin, Republic of Uganda.

Tilenga is onshore and includes six oil fields. It will consist of 31 well pads connected to a central processing facility (CPF) via buried flowlines and will feature 426 oil wells at full production. The field will generate up to 200,000 b/d.

The project will be led from McDermott's offices West of London and Sinopec's office in Yangzhou, China, before transitioning to Uganda for construction. Work began second-quarter 2021 and first oil is expected in 2025.

The contract is valued at about $2 billion.

Total E&P Uganda B.V., a subsidiary of Total, is operator at Tilenga (56.67%) with partners China National Offshore Oil Corp. (28.33%) and Uganda National Oil Co. (15%).
