Strike Energy Ltd., Adelaide, has been awarded Western Australia North Perth basin exploration license L20-3 surrounding the Eneabba Deep feature to take a virtual clean sweep of the Permian gas play in the region.

L20-3 lies at the southern end of the Permian gas fairway which has yielded in excess of 3 tcf of gas discoveries to date, including Strike’s West Erregulla gas field as well as Beharra Springs field to the north, Woodada field to the west, and the Ocean Hill (Jurassic) wet gas discovery to the east.

The Parmelia gas pipeline and the Dampier-Bunbury gas trunkline run adjacent to either side of the new permit.

Strike says there is correlation of the Permian section from Woodada field into L20-3 and previous work suggest a large trap is present within a horst block on the eastern side just west of the prominent Coomallo Fault.

Strike has nominated this lead, named Eneabba Deep, as the primary target with potential for stacked reservoirs equivalent to Kingia, High cliff, Wagina, and Donara formations within structural closure.

Seismic data is sparse, but the company says the structure could have a closure of more than 20 sq km.

Secondary prospectivity exists in the shallower Jurassic Cattamarra Coal Measures.

The permit award almost completes the connection of Strike’s acreage in the basin, making a contiguous land holding from north to south.

The company’s immediate task is to continue interpretation and reprocessing of existing data over Eneabba Deep prospect to gain an initial estimation of potential resource size.
