Galilee Energy Ltd., Brisbane, has reached an aggregate flow rate of 50 Mcfd in the 11 wells comprising its Glenaras coal seam gas pilot project northeast of Longreach in the Galilee basin of central Queensland.

All 11 wells, in permit ATP 2019, are on continuous production and flowing strongly to notch up the highest measured gas rate in the project so far, the company said.

Water rates in the five laterals have declined significantly to a current level of 4,600 b/d from peak flow as depressurization occurs in the central pilot area.

Water rates in the six more recent vertical wells is higher than that predicted by modelling. This, the company said, bodes well for achieving an accelerated depressurization process leading to commercial gas flows. There has been a demonstrable gas production through the water line system from these vertical wells, it said.

Total water flow from all 11 wells is 14,300 b/d.

The Glenaras project—operated by Galilee with 100% interest—seeks to tap the largest contingent gas resource in east coast Australia.

The project has an independently assessed and certified contingent gas resource within the Betts Creek coal measures of 308 petajoules (1C), 2,508 petajoules (2C), and 5,314 petajoules (3C).
