Equinor drills dry hole at North Sea Narvi nord prospect
Equinor Energy AS has drilled a dry well in the North Sea.
The operator completed drilling exploration well 34/8-20 S on the Narvi nord prospect in production license (PL) 554 E, 130 km west of Florø, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate said in a release Sept. 19. The well has been plugged.
The well, the first in the license, was drilled by the COSL Innovator rig in 375 m of water to a vertical depth of 3,280 m subsea. It was terminated in the Drake formation from the Early Jurassic.
The objective was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Brent Group from the Middle Jurassic. The well encountered the Brent Group with a vertical thickness of 148 m, 74 m of which was sandstone with moderate-to-good reservoir quality. The reservoir was aquiferous, and the well is classified as dry.
Equinor is operator at PL 554 E (40%) with partners Vår Energi ASA (30%), and Aker BP ASA (30%).
