Equinor Energy AS drilled a dry well in the Garantiana NV prospect in production license (PL) 554 about 120 km west of Florø in the North Sea, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate reported July 17.

Wildcat well 34/6-8 S, the eighth in the license, was drilled in 386 m of water about 4 km northwest of the 2021 34/6-5 S Garantiana West discovery to 4,123 m TVD and 3,984 m MD subsea. It was terminated in the Burton formation from the Early Jurassic.

The objective was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Cook formation from the Early Jurassic. The well encountered the Cook formation with a vertical thickness of 105 m, 53 m of which was sandstone with moderate to good reservoir quality. The reservoir was aquiferous, and the well is classified as dry.

The well has been permanently plugged.

Equinor is operator of PL 554 (40%) with partners Aker BP (30%) and Vår Energi ASA (30%).
