ReconAfrica to drill second exploration well in PEL 73 onshore Namibia
- Reconnaissance Energy Africa will drill the Kavango West 1X exploration well in onshore PEL 73 in northeast Namibia.
- The well is targeting the thick Otavi carbonate reservoir section.
Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica) will drill the Kavango West 1X exploration well in onshore Petroleum Exploration License (PEL) 73 in northeast Namibia.
The well will be the second test in the Damara Fold Belt play and will be drilled to a planned total depth of about 3,800 m (12,500 ft) targeting the thick Otavi carbonate reservoir section. The reservoir is expected to contain 346 million bbl of gross unrisked (30 million bbl of gross risked) prospective light-medium crude oil resources or 1,839 bcf of gross unrisked (133 bcf risked) prospective natural gas resources.
The play is a large fold extending across 11.5 million acres in Namibia and Angola. It is identified in the subsurface by a grid of 2D seismic data, and ReconAfrica mapped 19 prospects and 4 leads on the Namibia side. The Namibia area is estimated to hold 2.6 billion bbl of unrisked prospective light-medium crude oil resources and 157 million bbl of risked prospective light-medium crude oil resources.
