HOUSTON, Aug. 31 – Nelson Energy Inc., Shreveport, is drilling a horizontal Austin chalk exploratory well east of North Bayou Jack oil and gas field in eastern Avoyelles Parish, La.

The Deshotels 20-H 1 well is drilling at 14,075 ft, and a 4,500-ft horizontal leg is planned starting in mid-September, said 40% working interest owner Pryme Oil & Gas Ltd., Perth. The well, projected to 15,380 ft true vertical depth, is the first deep test on the 80-sq mile Turner Bayou 3D seismic survey.

The area has six prospective formations from Frio at 3,000 ft to Tuscaloosa at 18,000 ft.
