HOUSTON, Aug. 23
– Calvalley Petroleum Inc., Calgary, said its Ras Nowmah-2 well on Block 9 in Yemen stabilized at 3,000 b/d of 30° gravity oil on electric submersible pump and appears capable of flowing at much higher rates.

Analyzed by consulting engineers, test data from the well resulted in a calculated flow rate in excess of 5,000 b/d at a 20% pressure drawdown.

The well cut 41 m of gross oil pay of which the upper 15 m of pay were perforated for initial tests. Cretaceous Qishn sands, the primary target zone, came in 4 m higher than expected.

Calvalley and its partners are strongly encouraged by the discovery and its potential for opening a new exploration front on Block 9, the company said. The Ras Nowmah-3 appraisal well is to spud in late September or early October.
