Ultra Petroleum Corp., Houston, started Pennsylvania Marcellus shale production in mid-July at a combined 13 MMcfd from two wells as the company opened a field office at Wellsboro in Tioga County.

HOUSTON, Aug. 5
– Ultra Petroleum Corp., Houston, started Pennsylvania Marcellus shale production in mid-July at a combined 13 MMcfd from two wells as the company opened a field office at Wellsboro in Tioga County.
Ultra plans to drill more than 32 horizontal Marcellus wells by the end of 2009. It recently drilled and completed five wells that each tested at more than 5.3 MMcfd.

The company has obtained interconnects to four interstate pipelines with total capacity of 80 MMcfd growing to more than 300 MMcfd by yearend. Ultra has the acreage, resources, and logistics in place to drill more than 100 horizontal Marcellus wells in 2010.
