Continental Resources Inc., Enid, Okla., said it completed the Newton 1-4H well in Weld County, Colo., in the second quarter of 2011 at initial production results that were below expectations.
The company, which has 89% working interest in the well, didn’t give production figures but said the well confirmed that the Niobrara is a matrix-driven play and that productive areas can be defined on that basis.
Continental in mid-August will spud its second Niobrara well 12 miles south of the Newton 1-4H, where industry activity has demonstrated economic results.
Continental has 83,100 net acres leased in the Denver-Julesburg basin Niobrara play.
