Indonesia: South Sumatra coalbed well flares gas

Medco Energi has flared gas to surface from the CBM-SE-03 well, second test well to flare gas at the Sekayu coalbed methane production sharing contact in South Sumatra, Indonesia, 110 km west of Palembang.

The well penetrated more than 230 ft of net coal. Using packers at 2,300 ft and 2,353 ft measured depth, Medco isolated a 50-ft thick coal seam and placed preperforated liner across the unstimulated interval. Gas flowed to surface almost immediately, said partner CBM Asia Development Corp., Vancouver, BC, without giving rates.

Weatherford International Ltd. is preparing to conduct a coreless critical desorption pressure test at this well to measure coal seam gas saturation and gas flow capacity. The coal is in the Muara Enim formation at 2,500 ft.
