Petronas signed a memorandum of cooperation with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security for collaboration on cross-border CO2 transportation for CCS projects.

Petronas signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) to strengthen collaboration on cross-border CO2 transportation from business to business for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.

Petronas said the MoC seeks to strengthen the cooperation on cross boundary CCS projects between Japan and Malaysia and enable the exchange of information, including country-specific laws and regulations relating to CCS. The parties also may explore CCS and related cooperation with key partners including Japanese companies supported by JOGMEC.

In March, Petronas and JOGMEC signed an MoC to cooperate to create projects carbon-neutral fields in Malaysia. Based on that MOC, both parties are in discussions and joint studies to formulate and promote projects related to hydrogen/fuel ammonia, CCS, and GHG emissions management.
