Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) started production from FPSO P-78 in Búzios field in the Santos Basin presalt on Dec. 31, 2025.

The FPSO has capacity to produce 180,000 b/d of oil, in addition to compressing 7.2 million cu m/d of gas.

The project comprises 13 wells (6 producers, 7 injectors).

The unit is part of the Búzios 6 project, which comprises the seventh system in operation in the field, the largest in Brazil in terms of reserves, the company said in a release Jan. 2, 2026.

With the P-78 coming online, installed capacity of the field will expand to about 1.15 million b/d. The project also enables gas exports to the continent via connection with the Rota 3 gas pipeline, increasing Brazil's gas supply by up to 3 million cu m/d.

The P-78 arrived in Brazil in October from Singapore. Seatrium Ltd. completed the offshore commissioning.

In October 2025, Búzios field’s production passed 1 million b/d.
