Energean restarts production from Rospo Mare oil field damaged by early 2025 fire
Energean Italy restarted production activities at Rospo Mare field offshore Italy on Oct. 12. The crude oil field, which lies 20 km off the coast of Termoli and Vasto, had been shut down since a fire damaged the Rospo Mare B platform (RSMB) in January 2025.
The field is currently producing more than 2,000 b/d. It has an expected remaining production life beyond 2040, the company said in a release Oct. 14.
Full production is expected to be reached within days from all three platforms (RSMA, RSMB, and RSMC) following receipt of necessary authorizations.
RSMB is the main platform where oil treatment is performed. It is connected to the two satellite platforms with two 16-in. sealines as well as to the Alba Marina floating storage and offloading tanker. The field has been developed with 31 wells (29 producing wells).
Elsewhere in the country, Energean submitted a work program amendment to the Ministry in July for the potential Vega West development, which contains about 10 million bbl in the first phase and an additional 23 million bbl in the full development scenario, the company said in an operational update in September.
Overall, Energean is producing 12,000 boe/d from its assets in Italy.
A June 2024 agreement with investment firm Carlyle to acquire a portfolio of Energean’s gas-weighted exploration and production assets in Italy, Egypt, and Croatia was terminated in March of this year due to certain regulatory approvals not having been obtained (or waived) by the buyer in accordance with the deal terms.
