Alberta Oilsands reports solvent-SAGD step

Alberta Oilsands Inc., Calgary, has responded to the last request from Alberta officials for supplementary information in its application for a pilot project to produce bitumen with solvent-steam injection at its Clearwater acreage in northeastern Alberta.

The company plans to use a technology called solvent coinjection low-pressure steam-assisted gravity drainage (SLP-SAGD) initially to produce 4,350 b/d of bitumen with six well pairs.

In addition to responding to the Energy Resources Conservation Board’s third request for supplemental information, Alberta Oilsands updated the geomechanical model of its Clearwater West SLP-SAGD project.

The company has drilled 60 delineation coreholes over the six-section project area. GLJ Petroleum Consultants has estimated gross lease contingent resources at 373 million bbl on a best-estimate basis.
