LG International Corp., Seoul, has begun pilot production from Northwest Konys field in the Galaz contract area in Kyzylorda oblast in western Kazakhstan.

Six new wells drilled in 2008-09 and one reentry have been tested and shut-in pending application and receipt of final regulatory approvals, which were received in December 2011, said partner Roxi Petroleum PLC.

The NK-6 well resumed production on Jan. 19 at a rate of 225 b/d of 37-39° gravity, low-sulfur crude with 12-19% wax content. The oil is being trucked to neighboring operating company KuatAmlonMunai for domestic sale.

LG, which became operator of Galaz in 2010, and Roxi will restart output from the NK-9 well before moving to test NK-10, both of which were recently successfully drilled to 1,500 m. Roxi said Northwest Konys is the first of three fields it plans to bring on production in 2012.
