TAPS CORROSION-1 ULTRASONIC INSPECTION PROMPTS CHEMICAL INHIBITOR PROGRAM

Peter M. Ricca Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. Anchorage Trans-Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) has initiated a large-scale corrosion mitigation program using chemical inhibitors. Ultrasonic inspection in 1988 revealed internal corrosion predominantly in low-velocity piping where emulsified water had precipitated out of the crude oil and supported microbial corrosion.
