TEX/CON'S KATZ WATERFLOOD HIKES OIL PRODUCTION 2,000%
TEX/CON Oil & Gas Co.'s recently installed waterflood has increased oil production to almost 3,000 b/d this year from 150 b/d in its Katz Southwest River Unit in Stonewall County, Tex.
The company is considering expanding the waterflood to other areas of Katz field in North Central Texas, depending on results of the current waterflood program.
The 3,600 acre unit has 28 wells on stream and 13 water injectors.
Production is from Pennsylvanian Strawn.
Water injection began in April 1990.
Operator TEX/CON has a 50% working interest in the unit.
Partners are Texaco Producing Inc. and R.H. Venable Estate.
The Southwest River Unit project is TEX/CON's second waterflood in the Katz field area.
The company began waterflooding Katz East River Unit shortly after that tract was unitized in 1987.
Both units produce at a combined rate of more than 6,000 b/d.
TEX/CON, Houston, is a wholly owned subsidiary of BP Exploration Inc.
