North American drilling activity posted a 10-rig increase for the week ended June 12, with a total 742 rigs running. There were 562 rigs working in the US and another 180 in Canada, Baker Hughes officials reported Friday.

Canadian drilling once again drove the increases, with 180 rigs running this week, 11 more than the previous week. Six of these rigs were oil-directed, for a total of 121 working. Canada’s total rig count is up 42 from this time in 2025.

The rig count for the US was down 1 unit from the previous week and up 7 from a year ago. The number of rigs drilling on land increased by 1 unit to end the week at 550 rigs working. There were 4 rigs drilling in inland waters, flat from last week. Eight rigs were drilling offshore, down from 10 units last week.

In the US, 2 additional oil-directed rigs helped offset the 3-rig loss in gas-directed rigs. There were 433 units drilling for oil this week and 121 drilling for gas.

Texas gained 1 rig to end the week with 261 units working. New Mexico’s rig count also rose 1 unit this week to 97. Oklahoma added a single unit to end the week with 44 working rigs. Louisiana had 3 fewer rigs drilling this week than the week before.
