Eni confirms high deliverability at Geliga-1 gas discovery offshore Indonesia

Early evaluations indicate that, when combined, Geliga and Gula could underpin incremental production of about 1,000 MMscfd of gas and 80,000 b/d of condensate.

Key Highlights

  • Eni discovered gas and condensate in Kutei basin offshore Indonesia.
  • The Geliga‑1 discovery confirms about 5 tcf of gas and 300 million bbl of condensate within the targeted Miocene interval.

Eni successfully tested the Geliga‑1 discovery in Ganal block, Kutei basin, about 70 km off the coast of East Kalimantan offshore Indonesia.

The well was drilled in about 2,000 m of water and reached a total depth of about 5,100 m. It intersected a substantial gas column in the targeted Miocene interval, characterized by excellent petrophysical properties.

A Drill Stem Test (DST) flowed the reservoir at rates of up to a rig-constrained 60 MMscfd with limited pressure drawdown. Based on the test results, Geliga‑1 is estimated to produce a sustainable rate of about 200 MMscfd of gas and about 10,000 b/d of condensate.

The well test results further confirm the preliminary assessment of about 5 tcf of gas and 300 million bbl of condensate in‑place within the encountered interval.

The new discovery is next to the undeveloped Gula gas discovery, estimated at about 2 tcf of gas in place and 75 million bbl of condensate. Early evaluations indicate that, when combined, Geliga and Gula could underpin incremental production of about 1,000 MMscfd of gas and 80,000 b/d of condensate.

A Plan of Development (POD) is being prepared for submission to the Government of Indonesia in the coming weeks. The POD aims to enable the fast‑track development of a third production hub in Kutei basin, alongside the Gendalo and Gandang gas project (South Hub) and Geng North and Gehem fields (North Hub).

Eni is operator at Ganal PSC (82%) with Sinopec holding the remaining 18%.

The Ganal PSC is included in a portfolio of 19 blocks (14 in Indonesia and 5 in Malaysia) that will be transferred to Searah, an Eni–PETRONAS jointly controlled company.
