Baker Hughes: Canada adds 2 gas-directed rigs this week, US count unchanged
Canada has added 2 rigs for the week ended Feb. 20, according to Baker Hughes data. The increase puts the total number of rigs running in Canada at 224, 20 fewer than the 244 units drilling this week a year ago.
Gas-directed rigs in Canada increased by 2 to a total of 71. Oil-directed rigs were unchanged at 153.
The overall US drilling rig count was unchanged at 551 rigs working this week. There were 592 rigs running this week a year ago.
There were 530 rigs working on US land this week, 1 rig fewer than last week. An additional rig was drilling offshore, bringing the total to 18. Two fewer rigs were drilling in the Gulf of Mexico for a total of 9, Baker Hughes reported.
In the US, the rig counts for both oil-directed and gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 409 and 133, respectively.
Horizontal drilling rigs were up 2 to 483. Directional drilling rigs decreased by 2 to 55.
Louisiana saw the largest decrease of the major oil and gas-producing states, dropping 2 units to a total of 39. New Mexico’s rig count fell by 1 unit to 101.
Alaska added 2 rigs this week for a total of 11, while Texas added a single unit to end the week with 230 rigs running.
