US rig count up 2 units to 546

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas dropped the largest number of rigs this week. With 226 rigs running, the count is down 3 from last week and down 51 from this time a year ago.

The US drilling rig count was up 2 units to 546 rigs working for the week ended Jan. 30, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 36 units from the 582 rigs working this time a year ago.

The number of land-based rigs increased by 3 units to 529 for the week. Offshore units were down a single unit to 14, while those drilling in inland waters were unchanged, ending the week 3.

Oil-directed rigs were unchanged at 441, but down 68 units from the 479 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were up 3 to end the week at 125 rigs working. The count is up 27 from the number of gas-directed rigs working this time last year.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas dropped the largest number of rigs this week. With 226 rigs running, the count is down 3 from last week and down 51 from this time a year ago. Ohio dropped a single rig to end the week with 13.

Oklahoma added 3 units this week for a total of 46 to end the week. The count is up a single unit from this time a year ago. Louisiana, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania, each added a rig this week to reach respective counts of 38, 27, and 19.

Canada’s rig count increased by a single unit this week to reach 232 rigs running for the week The count is down 26 from the number of rigs working this time last year. There were 3 additional gas-directed rigs in Canada, bringing the count to 76, while 2 fewer units were drilling for oil, taking the number of oil-directed rigs to 156 for the week.
