Key Highlights

  • Tullow will increase activity in Ghana following successful drilling in Jubilee field.
  • Well J-74 is expected to produce over 10,000 bo/d, enabling Jubilee to start 2026 at nearly 70,000 bo/d.
  • Tullow will receive license extensions for Jubilee and TEN fields to 2040.

Tullow Oil plc will increase activity in Ghana in 2026 following successful drilling in Jubilee field, partner Kosmos Energy said in a release Jan. 5.

Well J-74, the second producer in the 2025-2026 Jubilee field development campaign, has been drilled and completed, and is expected online shortly. The well encountered about 50 m of net pay, in line with Kosmos' expectations and has been completed in three zones as was the J-72 well, which began producing in summer 2025.

Based on the flowback of the well to the rig, production from J-74 is expected to be over 10,000 bo/d, enabling Jubilee to start 2026 at a rate of nearly 70,000 bo/d with J-74 online.

During fourth-quarter 2025, gross Jubilee production averaged about 59,000 bo/d, consistent with expectations of slowing base decline (about 5% quarter over quarter). In addition to the J-72 and J-74 producer wells, the partnership has approved an additional five wells (four producer wells and one injector well) in 2026, and drilling of the next producer has commenced.

Jubilee Field straddles both the West Cape Three Points and Deepwater Tano blocks. Success at Jubilee was due to identification of the overlooked Upper Cretaceous structural-stratigraphic play concept along the Transform Margin of Africa.

In late December, Tullow and Ghana partners received approval for license extensions to the West Cape Three Points and Deep Water Tano Petroleum Agreements, which cover Jubilee and TEN fields. The agreements will be extended to 2040, and starting from July 2036, Ghana National Petroleum Corp. (GNPC) share in the fields will increase by a further 10% interest and the joint venture partners shares will decrease pro rata.

As part of the extension of the agreements, the Jubilee plan of development has been amended to include up to 20 additional wells in the field. As a result of the extension partners expect an increase in 2P reserves.

Lastly in Ghana, the TEN partnership has agreed final sale and purchase terms to acquire the TEN FPSO at the end of its current lease in 2027, with the final agreed sale and purchase agreement to be executed early this year.

Tullow is operator of the Jubilee unit area with 38.98% interest. Partners are Kosmos Energy (38.61%), GNPC (19.69%), and PetroSA (2.72%).

Tullow also operates TEN fields with 54.84% interest. Partners are Kosmos (20.38%), GNPC (20.95%), and Petro SA (3.82%).
