North America rig numbers unchanged at 739

Total oil and gas drilling activity in North America remained unchanged for the week ending Oct. 3, with a total of 739 rigs working, according to a Baker Hughes report Friday. A 1-rig gain in the US Gulf of Mexico offset a 1-rig loss on US land.

The total rig count in North America is down 69 rigs from the same time last year.

A total of 549 rigs were working in the US and its waters this week, down 36 from the year-ago period.

The number of rotary rigs working in US inland waters was unchanged at 3, up 2 from the year-ago period. Offshore activity increased by a single unit to leave 15 rigs running for the week, 10 in the US Gulf. Onshore activity decreased by 1 unit to 531 rigs working.

New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Utah each gained a single rig to end the week with respective counts of 96, 43, 38, and 11.

Texas dropped 2 units this week, leaving 244 rigs working. Pennsylvania’s rig count fell by a single unit to 17. Wyoming dropped 1 rig to end the week with 14 rigs working.

Canada had 190 rigs working, unchanged week-over-week, but down 33 units from the same period last year.
