SDX Energy PLC spud the Beni Malek-2 (BMK-2) well in Rharb basin, Morocco, about 1.5 km from the BMK-1 discovery well.

BMK-2 will be drilled to a planned depth of about 1,470 m and is targeting three stacked reservoirs in the Guebbas formation, which have been identified using 3D seismic.

This well follows the success of the KSR-21 well drilled in September 2023 and is part of an ongoing drilling campaign in Morocco, the company said (OGJ Online, Sept. 5, 2023). If BMK-2 is successful, the well will be completed and tied-in for production as quickly as possible to supplement existing production and provide gas to CITIC Dicastal, the company's largest offtaker, it said.

SDX has a 75% operated working interest across a Moroccan portfolio which includes the Sebou Central, Gharb Occidental, Moulay Bouchta Ouest, and Lalla Mimouna Sud exploration permits, plus several exploitation concessions containing producing wells.
