Baker Hughes: US rig count reaches 1,060, up 1 unit
The US drilling rig count was up 1 unit to 1,060 the week ended June 1, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 144 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 916.
Offshore units were unchanged from last week with 19 rigs working. A total of 1,039 rigs were drilling on land, up 3 from last week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was down 2 units to 2 working.
US oil-directed rigs were up 2 units this week to 861 and also up from the 733 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs shed 1 unit and now total 197. This time a year ago, 182 units were drilling for gas.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Oklahoma made a 2-unit gain to reach 142. Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming each gained 1 unit to reach respective counts of 535, 32, and 27. Seven states were unchanged this week, namely Pennsylvania, 39; Ohio, 23; West Virginia, 18; California, 15; Alaska, 9; Utah, 8; and Arkansas, 1.
New Mexico and North Dakota were each down 1 rig to respective counts of 90 and 55. Louisiana, down 2 units this week, reached 58.
Canada gained 18 rigs to 99 working from a week ago. The same number of rigs were drilling this week a year ago. Oil-directed rigs increased 21 units this week to 56, while those targeting gas lost 3 units to 43.
