Canada rig count posts double-digit increase

The rig count in Canada ended the week with 11 additional rigs running. For the week ended July 11, the rig count in Canada stood at 162, according to Baker Hughes data. There were 10 additional oil-directed rigs in Canada this week and 1 additional gas-directed rig, bringing the week’s totals to 112 and 50, respectively.

The total rig count in Canada is down 27 units from the 189 rigs working this time a year ago.

In the US, 2 fewer rigs were running for a total of 537. The count is down 47 units from the 584 rigs running in the US this time last year.

US oil-directed rigs decreased by a single unit to 424, down 54 from this time in 2024. Gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 108, up 8 from the year-ago period.

The number of rigs drilling on US land decreased by 2 from last week to 522. Drilling rigs in inland waters and offshore were unchanged at 2 and 13, respectively.

There was little movement among the major and gas producing states. Texas dropped a single unit to end the week with 255 rigs running, down 21 from this time last year. Oklahoma also dropped a single unit to end the week with 42 rigs. That count is up 8 from the year-ago period.
