Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Ltd., Aberdeen, has started oil production from Shaw field, part of the Montrose area redevelopment in the central North Sea.

The Montrose area redevelopment, a major capital project that enhances long-term Montrose area systems, incorporates development of Godwin, Cayley, and Shaw fields and a new bridge-linked production (BLP) platform connected to the Montrose Alpha to provide additional process and plant support facilities.

Godwin field has been developed via an extended reach well from the Arbroath platform. Cayley and Shaw fields have been developed as subsea tie-backs to the BLP platform. Shaw production will be followed by Cayley by the end of the second quarter, with gross incremental production expected to peak at up to 40,000 boe/d. The project overall is expected to access up to 100 million boe of additional reserves.

The project also is expected to extend the life of existing Montrose area fields to beyond 2030. Montrose Alpha was originally commissioned in 1976. In addition to Godwin, Cayley, and Shaw fields, the area includes Montrose, Arbroath, Arkwright, Brechin, Carnoustie, and Wood fields. The area is on Blocks 22/17, 22/18, 22/22, and 22/23, 200 km east of Aberdeen.

Repsol Sinopec is operator of the project with 58.97% working interest and Marubeni Oil & Gas (UK) Ltd. is the sole partner.

Repsol Sinopec is a joint venture of Repsol SA and Addax Petroleum UK Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of China Petrochemical Corp. (Sinopec Group). It arose from the 2015 acquisition by Repsol of Talisman Energy Inc., including its 51% equity interest in the combine, previously called Talisman Sinopec Energy UK.
