LONDON, Mar. 13 -- Saudi Aramco has contracted J. Ray McDermott SA to fabricate and install facilities for South Safaniya oil field, the largest offshore reservoir it has discovered. The value of the work was not disclosed.

The work in the Persian Gulf was awarded under the companies' long-term agreement and is expected to continue through 2010.

J. Ray will procure, fabricate, and install three decks, jackets, associated pipelines, and three new shallow 15-km water crude oil pipelines. The pipelines will divert oil production flow from three existing platforms to other facilities before it will be pumped to the onshore Safaniya gas oil separator plant.

Discovered in 1951, the field has a production capacity of more than 1.2 million b/d.
