LOS ANGELES, July 3 -- Saudi Arabia's state-owned Saudi Arabian Oil Co. has awarded engineering firm JGC Corp. a ¥200 billion contract to supply crude oil treatment equipment, which includes water injection equipment and storage tanks, for the northern area of Manifa field in the Persian Gulf.

The Manifa facility will treat heavy oil extracted from subsea oil reserves before the oil is shipped to a production plant. The work will be completed by yearend 2011 as part of Saudi Aramco's plan to boost crude oil output.

In May, Natco Group Inc. reported that it would provide equipment and technology to Foster Wheeler for the Manifa heavy crude program.

It said the development of Manifa oil field includes construction and expansion of new processing infrastructure to handle an additional 900,000 b/d of Arabian heavy crude.

Natco said it will supply the oil field with advanced dehydration and desalting technology, including design and fabrication of six trains treating a total of 900,000 b/d. Each train will be comprised of one TriVolt dehydrator and two TriVolt desalter units for a total of 18 vessels.
