Rig counts increase in US and Canada

The Baker Hughes Inc. US rig count for the week of May 20 increased by 7 from the prior week to 1,315. It was up 143 from the same week a year earlier.

HOUSTON, May 20 -- The Baker Hughes Inc. US rig count for the week of May 20 increased by 7 from the prior week to 1,315. It was up 143 from the same week a year earlier.

There were 1,202 rotaries at work on land, 23 in inland waters, and 90 offshore, Baker Hughes said.

The biggest state changes were gains of 4 in Louisiana and 3 each in Oklahoma and Wyoming and a decline of 7 in Texas.

Canada's rig count increased by 12 from the prior week to 267, compared with 201 in the same week of 2004.
