US drilling activity continued to climb, up by 2 rotary rigs to 624 working this week, compared with 771 in the same period last year, Baker Hughes reported Friday.
Gains were reported in land rigs and offshore. Land operations saw a single unit increase to 599. The count is 154 fewer than during the same period in 2022.
Offshore drilling increased by 2 rigs to 24, with 22 working in the Gulf of Mexico. Inland waters activity decreased by 1 rig to 1 active.
Of the US rigs, 502 were drilling for oil, a single unit more than last week. There were 118 gas-directed rigs, a single unit more than last week.
Canada's rig count increased by 5 rotary rigs to 198 working this week, compared with 210 active a year ago. Of those currently active, 121 were drilling for oil, five more than last week, and 77 were drilling for gas, a single unit more than last week.
