The weekly rotary rig count increased by 6 in the US and by 8 in Canada, said Baker Hughes.
This week there were 680 rotary rigs working in the US and its waters and 175 working in Canada. A year ago, the numbers were 752 and 175, respectively.
Of the rigs working in the US and its waters this week, 540 were drilling for oil and 135 were drilling for gas. There were 657 rigs on land, 4 in inland waters, and 19 offshore. In Canada, 111 rigs were drilling for oil, up 2 from last week. Rigs drilling for gas in Canada increased by 6 to reach 64.
Of the major US producing states, Louisiana saw the largest increase in rigs the week of July 7. With 50 rigs running, the count is 7 more than the previous week. New Mexico’s rig count increased by 3 to reach 111 units working. Wyoming’s rig count increased by 1 unit this week to reach 19.
Texas saw a 4-unit drop, ending the week with 337 rigs working. The count is 24 fewer than were drilling this time a year ago. Colorado’s rig count fell by a single rig to hit 15 rigs working this week.
The remainder of the major US producing states remained unchanged.
