The US drilling rig count fell 12 units to 759 rigs working during the week ended Feb. 3, data from Baker Hughes indicate. This total is up 146 units from a year ago.

The US drilling rig count fell 12 units to 759 rigs working during the week ended Feb. 3, data from Baker Hughes indicate. This total is up 146 units from a year ago.

Offshore this week dropped 1 unit to 12 rigs working, all in the Gulf of Mexico. Rigs drilling on land were down 11 units this week to reach 745. Rigs drilling in inland waters were unchanged at 2.

Rigs targeting oil fell 10 units to reach 599. A year ago this week, 497 rigs were drilling for oil. There were 158 units targeting gas this week, down 2 from last week. This time a year ago, 116 rigs were drilling for gas.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas and Wyoming saw the largest drop in rigs, down 3 units each from last week to reach respective counts of 377 and 17. California was down 2 units to 3 rigs working. Louisiana, Colorado, and Alaska each dropped a rig to hit 60, 19, and 7 rigs working for the week.

None of the states gained rigs this week.

Canada gained 2 units to 249 rigs from a week ago. There are 31 more rigs running than a year ago this week. Oil-directed rigs rose 2 units this week to 159, while those targeting were unchanged at 90 units working.
