Rotary rig count rises slightly in US, falls in Canada
The weekly rotary rig count increased by 1 in the US and its waters, but dipped by 2 in Canada, said Baker Hughes.
This week there were 765 rotary rigs working in the US and its waters and 213 working in Canada. A year ago, the numbers were 528 and 165, respectively.
Of the rigs working in the US and its waters this week, 604 were drilling for oil; 159 were drilling for gas; and 2 were unclassified. There were 745 rigs on land, 4 in inland waters, and 16 offshore.
Texas's count fell by 2 to 360, the biggest change this week. Three states dropped rigs this week. With a 1-unit drop each, counts in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Ohio reached 64, 23, and 10, respectively. West Virginia gained 4 rigs to end the week with 16 rigs running. New Mexico and North Dakota also saw rig counts increase. A 2-unit gain in New Mexico led to a count of 113 for the week, while North Dakota added a single unit to end the week with 38 rigs working.
