Baker Hughes: US rig count up 6 to 556

The US drilling rig count increased by 6 units to reach 556 rigs working for the week ended Nov. 12, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 244 units from the 312 rigs working this time a year ago.

The US drilling rig count increased by 6 units to reach 556 rigs working for the week ended Nov. 12, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 244 units from the 312 rigs working this time a year ago.

The number of rigs drilling on land was up 4 units week-over-week with a total of 539. The number of rigs drilling offshore was up 2 to 15. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was unchanged at 2.

US oil-directed rigs were up by 4 to 454 units. This time a year ago, 218 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas increased by 2 to 102 rigs working, 29 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.

Of the major oil and gas-producing states, three saw increases. The rig count in Texas increased by 10 to reach 264, while Ohio’s rig count increased by 2 to 12. Louisiana gained a single rig to reach 49 units drilling for the week.

New Mexico dropped 5 rigs to reach 81. West Virginia’s rig count decreased by a single rig to end the week at 10.

Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely Oklahoma, 44; North Dakota, 23; Pennsylvania, 18; Wyoming, 15; Colorado, 12; California, 10; Utah, 9; and Alaska, 6

Canada’s rig count increased by 8 units to 168 rigs drilling for the week. The count is 79 more than the 89 units drilling this week a year ago. At 101 units, Canada’s oil-directed rig count increased by 6 rigs from last week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada increased by 2 units to 67 rigs running for the week.
