Canada added 13 rigs for the week ended July 16, according to Baker Hughes data. At 150 rigs, the count is 118 more than the 32 units drilling this week a year ago. With 94 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rig count is up 6 for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada increased by 7 units to reach 55.
The overall US rig count is up 5 for the week at 484 rigs working. The count is up 231 units from the 253 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling on land in the US is up 5 units week-over-week with a total of 466. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters is unchanged at 1. The offshore rig count is unchanged at 17.
US oil-directed rigs increased by 2 from last week to reach 380 units. This time a year ago, 180 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas are up 3 units to 104, 33 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Wyoming saw the largest increase in rigs. With 3 additional units, the state’s rig count stands at 13 for the week. Oklahoma gained 2 rigs for the week to reach 29 rigs working.
Louisiana and Alaska each gained a single unit to reach rig counts of 54 and 5, respectively.
Texas dropped 2 rigs over the week to reach 222 rigs working.
Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely New Mexico 75; North Dakota, 18; Pennsylvania, 18; Colorado, 12; Utah, 10; Ohio, 10; West Virginia, 10; and California, 6.
