Baker Hughes: Canada’s rig count up 9 units to 126

Canada added 9 rigs for the week ended June 25, according to Baker Hughes data. At 126 rigs, the count is 113 more than the 13 units drilling this week a year ago. With 82 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rig count was up 8 for the week.

With 82 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rig count was up 8 for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada increased by 1 unit to reach 44.

The overall US rig count was unchanged for the week at 470 rigs working. The count is up 205 units from the 265 rigs working this time a year ago.

The number of rigs drilling on land in the US was down 2 units week-over-week with a total of 454. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters increased by 1 to 2 units working. The offshore rig count was up a single unit to 14.

US oil-directed rigs decreased by 1 from last week to reach 372 units. This time a year ago, 188 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas were up 1 unit to 98, 23 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.

Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Alaska saw the only increase in rigs. With a single additional rig, the state’s rig count stands at 4 for the week.

California’s rig count decreased by 1 rig to reach 6 rigs drilling for the week.

Eleven states remained unchanged this week, namely Texas, 221; New Mexico 75; Louisiana, 52; Oklahoma, 27; Pennsylvania, 18; North Dakota, 17; Colorado, 10; Utah, 10; Wyoming, 10; Ohio, 9; and West Virginia, 9.
