Wintershall Dea Norge AS will plug wildcat well 6604/6-1 in production license 894 in the Norwegian Sea (OGJ Online, Nov. 26, 2019). The well is dry.

The well was drilled by Saipem's Scarabeo 8 semisubmersible drilling rig 105 km southwest of Aasta Hansteen field and 362 km west of Sandnessjøen to a vertical depth of 3,606 m subsea. It was terminated in the lower part of the Springar formation in the Upper Cretaceous. Water depth at the site is 1,127 m.

The well encountered a total of about 185 m of sandstone rocks in the Springar formation, with reservoir rocks in three zones totaling about 120 m. The reservoir rocks are mainly of poor to moderate reservoir quality. The sandstones contain traces of gas.

Data has been collected and samples have been taken.

This is the second exploration well in the license. Wintershall is operator with 40% interest. Partners are Equinor Energy AS, 40%; and Petoro AS, 20%.

The Scarabeo 8 will now drill appraisal well 6604/5-2 S in the license.
