Baker Hughes: Canada adds 15 rigs for the week
Canada has added 15 rigs for the week ended Dec. 13, according to Baker Hughes data. With 153 rigs running, 21 fewer units are drilling in Canada than a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada increased by 9, bringing the count to 96 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs increased by 6 units to 57.
The US drilling rig count, meanwhile, remained unchanged with 799 rigs running for the week. The count is down 272 units from the 1,071 rigs working this time a year ago.
At 776 rigs working, there was one fewer unit drilling on land week-over-week. The number of offshore units increased by a single unit to 23. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters remained unchanged at 0 rigs working for the week.
US oil-directed rigs increased 4 units from last week to 667 units working, down from the 873 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were down 4 units to 129, and down from the 198 units drilling for gas a year ago.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, West Virginia saw the largest increase in rigs with a 3-unit gain to reach 16. Pennsylvania is up a single unit for the week, bringing its total to 25. Kansas gained its only rig running for the week.
Six states were unchanged this week: Texas, 400; Louisiana, 56; North Dakota, 50; Oklahoma, 50; California, 15; and Utah, 4.
Wyoming and Ohio each dropped 2 units to reach 27 and 11 rigs running, respectively. Colorado’s rig count fell by 2 units to 31. Three states saw a single-unit drop for the week: New Mexico, 102; Colorado, 22; and Alaska, 6.
